Worship is a vital part of the community life of our church. We recognize that, before we are anything else, we are a worshiping community. At Hester, we desire to listen to God and honor God in all we do.
Our worship at Hester may be described as "Hymn-based Traditional". This means that we sing hymns from a hymnal, rather than choruses from a screen. This is the way we have worshiped here for nearly 200 years.
However, even though we are attentive to our traditions, we are also open to new technologies, new forms of music, and new possibilities in our worship. We enjoy learning new hymns and songs from a variety of Christian worship traditions, and supplementing what we have readily available to us in our 1991 Baptist Hymnals.
Our services also include anthems offered by our Sanctuary Choir, and solos, duets, and other pieces of music provided by others members. We use an organ and a piano, but occasionally have other instruments featured in our services. We read the Bible from the King James Version, but also from other contemporary translations from time to time.
In addition to regular, weekly services, we have special services of worship on holidays and others days of particular emphasis. Our pastor may wear a robe at times, but most often dresses in a simple business suit. Worshipers are invited to dress however they are comfortable for worship. We also provide a Worship Nursery for the children, if you should need it.
Our pastor preaches Biblical sermons that focus on the exposition and application of Scripture. At the close of each service, we extend an invitation for worshipers to join our church by profession of faith, Christian statement, or on promise of a letter of recommendation from another church of like faith and practice. If you should have any questions about how to join our church, please give us a call. Our pastor will be happy to arrange to speak with you.
